AANZGOSA / SUGSS ASM 2024

AANZGOSA-SUGSS Annual Scientific Meeting was at the Shangri-la Hotel in the heart of Sydney on the 31 October -1 November 2024.

The theme was “No Guts, No Glory – Looking Toward the Future,” with an exciting lineup focused on the stomach. Whether you’re a seasoned specialist UGI Surgeon or just starting out as a registrar, there was something there for everyone.

International visitors Prof. Simon Ying-Kit Law (Hong Kong) and Dr Sungsoo Park (Korea) are experts in their field, researchers, and dynamic presenters. We were privileged to have secured their attendance. This exceptional experience and expertise in gastric surgery, including robotics, made the conference an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in gastric surgery.

There were many local experts attending with interactive presentations, video sessions and discussion scheduled to complement the central theme.

The collaborative efforts of Sarah Thompson and Inoka de Silva from AANZGOSA, in partnership with SUGSS (David Martin, Michael Talbot and Manju Siddaiah-Subramanya), culminated in an exceptional combined program which offered offer a blend of scientific insights and practical clinical applications. In 2024, we were delighted to introduce an allied health component. This was of interest to Cancer coordinators, dietitians, nurses, psychologists and physiotherapists.

Also on offer was prizes for the best oral, poster and video presentations.

Throughout the conference there was ample time for social activities and interaction with colleagues, speakers and our invited guests.

We thank our industry sponsors as always for their essential contribution to the success of the meeting.
